Our private game reserve is a botanical hotspot, especially during flower season from mid August to end September, with over twenty rare and endangered species already identified. Our next door neighbour, Cape Nature's Pella Research Reserve, has the highest number of endangered species for any reserve in the country, but is unfortunately closed to the public. On Burgherspost however, you can enjoy a guided drive and explore our rich biodiversity first hand.
On a guided game drive you will also encounter some of South Africa’s most renowned game and bird species including gemsbok, bontebok, eland, Red hartebeest, springbok, zebra and numerous other smaller mammals such as duiker, steenbok, porcupine, honey badger, Cape clawless otter, and Yellow mongoose. Our top predators include caracal, the African wild cat and the Cape fox.
We also have healthy bird populations and you can expect to see secretary birds, blue cranes, yellow-billed ducks, fish eagles, black harriers, jackal buzzards, bokmakieries, malachite sun birds, namaqua doves, cape canaries and at dusk the spotted eagle owl, barn owl and fiery-necked nightjars.
At Cloof, come and taste our award winning wines while sitting down to a delectable a-la-carte meal. And rates are per person sharing and include a wine tasting and a guided cellar tour. Cloof will also sponsor a bottle or two of wine for you to enjoy during your stay. Also included in the rate is a two hour game drive through our private nature reserve by our conservation manager.
Bookings can only be confirmed once the client has paid the full deposit. The balance is then payable before or on arrival. Over long weekends (where Friday or Monday is a public holiday) minimum two nights' stay.

★★★★★ The house is spacious, comfortable and designed to show off the spectacular view from every window. The game drive is not to be missed - Jacques is both knowledgeable and deeply caring about every aspect of the environment he oversees. A truly relaxing, peaceful and inspiring escape from city life.

★★★★★ Plenty of bird life on and around the dams, including a fish eagle which stayed for several hours.Game drive with Edrick shoed us springbok, eland and a small group of blue crane. As fellow conservationists it was interesting to hear from him how restoration within the game reserve is proceeding. Accommodation very comfortable and spacious.

★★★★★ Apart from a friendly welcome, we were left to enjoy the clean air, natural surroundings, birding and walking around the farm and it's vines. Our stay was most relaxing and peaceful.
